Safety
2009 Outlander
With Active Stability Control (ASC), anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), daytime running lamps and available multi-mode all-wheel drive, Outlander's pretty good at helping you avoid accidents. Outlander's active safety features are emblematic of our all-wheel control engineering philosophy. We gave Outlander an aluminum roof to lower the center of gravity for the same reason. We believe that keeping you in control is the best way to keep you safe*.
Top Safety Pick
You don't have to take our word for Outlander's excellent safety record. Independent testing by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) shows just what safety means. Outlander received the highest possible rating - good - in front and side-impact crash testing, as well as evaluation of seat and head restraints for whiplash protection effectiveness. Outlander also received high marks for having standard ASC and side-curtain airbags for the first and second rows.
Safety features you can count on.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander its Top Safety Pick and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given Outlander a five-star Crash Safety Rating in frontal and side-impact tests for both driver and passenger**-a testament to Mitsubishi Motors' engineering and commitment to safety.
Advanced Airbag System
Outlander comes standard with 6 airbags including: advanced, dual-stage, front airbags* and side-impact and roll-sensing, curtain airbags* for all trim levels.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The standard ABS technology used by the Outlander helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system "pulses" the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control. We've included a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard equipment on every Outlander. Properly inflated tires give you better control, sure, but they also return better gas mileage and help prevent blowouts. It's one more way that performance and safety go hand in hand.
LATCH System
Lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH) help simplify the attachment of child safety seats; making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Reinforced Chassis
The wraparound cabin preservation structure Refined Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) on the Outlander helps preserve a survival space for the vehicle occupants. Reinforcement welds encircle the cabin, enabling a more ideal energy absorption in case of a front, side or rear collision.
Seatbelts and Pretensioners
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with a three-point seatbelt and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters that help the front seatbelts and airbags† work together optimally are also standard on every Outlander.
