2009 Eclipse
Sometimes the things that make a high-performance car are the same things that make a safer car. A rigid platform. An advanced anti-lock braking system. A sure-footed, nimble-handling vehicle. An advanced airbag system. Eclipse is a unique vehicle that satisfies both your driving passions and your safety* needs.
Advanced Airbag System
Eclipse's six-airbag safety system includes advanced front SRS airbags†, front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side-curtain airbags for front seat occupants. All are standard and each was carefully positioned based on extensive crash testing and simulation.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The ABS technology used by the Eclipse helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
Reinforced Chassis
The Eclipse platform is reinforced in key locations using high-strength steel. Additional cross members in the dash area, cabin floor and roof help maintain cabin rigidity in the event of a side collision. The side sills are then reinforced, along with front and rear sub-frame components, which help minimize deformation due to an offset front impact.
ASC (Active Stability Control)
Eclipse GT's power is managed by Mitsubishi's high-tech ASC system. ASC comes standard with a V6 and modulates the throttle and brakes to ensure more sure-footed acceleration in a straight line, through a curve, and even on low-traction surfaces or in an emergency maneuver.
LATCH System
Lower anchors in the Eclipse rear seat help simplify the attachment of child safety seats, making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Seatbelts and Pretensioners
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seatbelts and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters that help the front seatbelts and airbags† work together optimally are also standard on every Spyder.
